The fretboard stops being a mystery when you own its vocabulary. Start with the notes of the neck — free, the whole module — go on to the degrees, and then take on all 244 shapes: triads, spread triads, drop-2 and drop-3 voicings, systematically, with spaced repetition, ear training and real audio.
Before the shapes come the notes. Three variables — note, string, fret: the app shows you two and you answer the missing one, in all three directions. 72 cards, the same spaced repetition engine as everything else, and all three modes open without a license. And when a note sits in two places — F on the 6th string is fret 1 and fret 13, and the 6th and 1st strings are both E — either answer counts, because both are true.
Knowing the notes isn't enough to build a chord: you need to find the ♭3 of A without thinking. Four variables here — root, degree, string, fret: three are shown, you answer the missing one, in all four directions. Including the one that really pays off on the bandstand: this note is the ♯11 of which chord?
Degrees are named the way a chart names them — ♭9 9 ♭3 3 11 ♯11/♭5 5 ♯5/♭13 13 ♭7 7 — so what you drill is what you'll read. 72 cards, one deck per direction, and the map colours root, 3rds, 5ths and 7ths with the same colours as the chord modules.
Pick your module, the root on the chromatic knob, quality, inversion and string set — see the shape, hear it, and label notes by name or by role (root, 3rd, 5th, 7th).
Spaced repetition, for real: the app asks for a chord and YOU place the notes on the fretboard. Objective grading, and a Leitner scheduler that brings each shape back right before you'd forget it.
The reverse quiz: an unlabeled shape appears and you identify root, quality and inversion. Flip the Ear switch and the fretboard goes dark — only the chord sounds, so there are no finger positions left to lean on. Each mode keeps its own review deck: hearing isn't seeing, and seeing isn't producing.
The same chord chained through all its inversions climbing up the neck — in any of the four modules — animated and with sound. This is how shapes link together until the whole fretboard feels like home.
